Majority Opposes Closing Gitmo

By more than 2-1, those surveyed say Guantanamo shouldn’t be closed. By more than 3-1, they oppose moving some of the accused terrorists housed there to prisons in their own states.

The findings underscore the difficult task President Obama faces in convincing those at home that he should follow through on his campaign promise to close the prison in Cuba, especially in the absence of a plan of where the prisoners would go.

Would that the electorate could have come to these conclusions back when Pres. Obama was merely candidate Obama. Alas, they have gotten exactly what they asked for except they neglected to ask what closing Gitmo entailed back when the junior senator from Illinois was pontificating about the evil atrocity horrors allegedly being committed there. Now the Bush-centered trap Obama spun for Sen. McCain has become his own foil.

Obama need not have fallen into his trap had he not over-promised. He spoke with much surety that atrocities were occurring at the detention center. He told his voters that Gitmo was a cause for national shame and embarrassment. His charisma carried that message without regard to consequence. A more sensible approach would have been to promise an investigation to ascertain whether or not the allegations were true. Instead he gets elected blowing the trumpet of demagoguery and exacerbates the situation with an executive order whose wording he wasn’t even familiar with and now appears to be unable to fulfill because his democrat controlled congress won’t pony-up the funds for fear of being dis-elected [It’s my blog I can make-up words if I think there is a reqinecssity –ed.]. No man can survive both the absence of experience and principles. Obama could have survived his lack of experience by not over-promising but that would have required a principled stance on his part. Principles can substitute for a lack of experience by providing guidance on how to approach any given issue but Obama’s principles–and experience–all descend from the likes of people who, as a primary assumption, view America as a being of evil, i.e. Ayers, Wright, Alinsky, Pfleger, etc worthy of attack, verbally or otherwise. His batshit crazy base won’t let him off the hook and he is hemorrhaging political capital amid all of the other boneheaded offerings plopped in front of us recently. His base sees him as a traitor, the independents see him as naive and his opponents will be begging to know why he politicized national security with an ostentatious fireworks display that ultimately burned out of his control.

Usually when a politician seeks re-election they like to brag about campaign promises that had been fulfilled. Something tells me this will be one of those issues Obama begs his faithful minions in the MSM to spike down the memory hole.
